Health Care
The Karuna Charitable Trust was formed by a couple (Michael & Michelle D’Costa) who were led by God to work among the rejected & stigmatized leprosy affected people. Karuna means compassion, and the Karuna project was started with the Vision of “Sharing the love of Jesus to give the leprosy affected a sense of worth and dignity, through acceptance and self reliance, and integrate them into society and church.” and with the Mission of “Rehabilitating leprosy affected people.”
A well equipped clinic has been established in the colony. Dressing of wounds, pressure sores and ulcers are done daily. This service is done free of charge. A doctor is available twice a week for consultations. Personal Hygiene is taught to the residents through audio visuals like movies, documentaries and one to one discussions. We also teach them to eat a nutritious diet.
